Students interested in completing a shorter study sequence than the Master of Computer Science are encouraged to undertake the Graduate Diploma in Computer Science.

Course outline

Computer Science and Information Technology evolve at such a rate that what you use today may not exist tomorrow. While an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline should equip you with life-long learning skills, mastering these fields and applying your knowledge requires additional study.

Excellent opportunities are offered through the Graduate Diploma in Computer Science to learn about the new advances in technologies that you will encounter in your future professional career.

on your selection of units, you may become proficient in:

  • Concurrent and other computational paradigms
  • Networking and security
  • Web technologies
  • Vision and kinematic animation
  • Software requirements, quality and management
  • AI and neural computing
  • Modelling and visualisation

The course consists of a program of advanced study to a total value of 48 points, as approved by the Faculty and students may proceed by way of coursework or by way of coursework and dissertation.

The course by way of coursework comprises units to a total value of 48 points chosen from the Level 3, Level 4 or Level 7 units offered by the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, provided that no more than 24 points come from Level 3 units.

The course by way of coursework and dissertation comprises:

  • CITS7200 Scientific Communication
  • units to a total value of 30 points chosen from the Level 3, Level 4 or Level 7 units offered by the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, provided that no more than 24 points come from Level 3 units;
  • a dissertation to the value of 12 points comprising the following which must be completed over two
    successive semesters

Admission requirements

A bachelor's degree of this University majoring in computer science or information technology or equivalent.
