Recipe for Getting and Staying Ahead in CSSE.

Abstract


 
Tutorial-style discussion beginning with my background and experience in electronic engineering, physics and mechanical engineering, astronomy and astrophysics, control systems, acoustics and vibration, hearing physiology, defence and systems, leading to financial and finally enterprise systems.  From my apprenticeship in software engineering moving lately to software and systems architecture, strategy and leadership, transferable skills and problem solving.  The value of coaching and mentoring, questioning the direction of undergraduate curricula, teaching of fundamentals versus fads, value of and approach to post graduate training and professional development, attendance and presentation at conferences, reasons and effort to bring ASWEC to Perth for the first time, writing, speaking and consulting, opportunities for Western Australia and for ourselves in CSSE, potential impact of SKA, the mining boom and beyond, challenges for recognition as a profession.
