Seminar Room 1.24
Abstract:
Establishing new Websites can be fun,
creative and fast; but maintaining them can quickly turn into a chore.
A Content Management System (CMS) can make this task very much easier,
without necessarily impinging on creative flexibility.
In February 2002 the University adopted the MySource Content Management
System (CMS) as a centrally available web publishing facility. The
University's successful implementation of MySource has attracted
attention in government and higher education sectors both nationally and
internationally as a useful case study of An Open Source Website
Development Success Story.
Since its adoption there has been an extraordinary uptake of the CMS
around campus with 530 users maintaining 180 sites comprising 20,000 web
pages. Key factors influencing the speed with which Schools, Faculties
and other sections have migrated to MySource include:
- high usability
- excellent site management tools
- feature rich environment
- flexibility
- content re-use
- devolved management model
- integration with other University information services and systems
- Open Source
Grant Malcolm, the University Website Coordinator, will provide an
overview of the features available and the technologies used in the CMS. |
