PROJECT CHARDONNAY

Environment, Management and Compositional Quality of Fruit and Wine of the grapevine, Chardonnay

This project is assessing the factors that affect the quality of Chardonnay grapes and wines. The project is split into three areas:
  • Ecophysiology:
    1. Soil conditions, vine development and fruit composition
    2. Vine water balance, vine development and fruit composition
    3. Temperature and the co-ordination of ripening events

  • Natural Product Chemistry
    1. Thio compounds, their role in defining 'Chardonnay' and the influence of site and season on their levels
    2. Biosynthesis of flavour and flavour precursor compounds in cv 'Chardonnay'
    3. Senescence and its role in the ripening of fruit of the grape, cv Chardonnay

  • Complex Systems Analysis
    1. Remote sensing, analysis and display of data from a vineyard in relation to critically important quality-related factors
