Abstract
A convenient way of looking at a distributed system is to partition it
into a set of cooperating components or objects. The Common Object
Request Broker Architecture takes this approach, defining interfaces
between components, and using the ORB to simplify the complexities of
interfacing components.
In this seminar I will give an introduction to CORBA and the range of
CORBA services that extend the core specification. Emphasis will be put
on scalable systems, and how CORBA accommodates scalability issues. I
will describe current research at IONA Technologies in this area, and
give examples of real-world applications that use CORBA to solve
scalability problems.
