Seminar Announcement

Title: Research Opportunities with Microsoft Research
Speaker: James Plamondon
  Microsoft Research
Date: Friday 11th December, 1998
Time: 11am
Venue: Seminar Room 1.24

Abstract

James Plamondon, University Programs Manager with Microsoft Research, will describe the history, status, and current research areas of Microsoft Research - the world's largest Computer Science research lab. Also, he will describe MSR's new University Programs effort, which makes it easy for Computer Science researchers to choose to use Microsoft's technologies in their work. Microsoft Research can provide software, software development tools, training materials, and so on. After the presentation, time will be available for questions, comments, and discussion.

Bio

Having developed Macintosh-based software since 1985, James Plamondon has experienced Microsoft as a competitor as well as an employer. After publishing numerous technical articles on both Mac and Windows programming issues, he joined Microsoft's Developer Relations Group in 1992, to help Macintosh developers (and others) thrive in an increasingly Windows-oriented world. Now in Microsoft Research's University Programs Group, James helps Computer Science researchers take advantage of Microsoft's technologies in their research. He is here on holiday with his family, exploring the possibility of moving from one WA to the other in about a year -- so don't hesitate to try to talk him [into | out of] it while he's here. :-)
