Abstract
Wavelet signal processing is an alternative to the traditional
Fourier Transform for specific problem domains. History
has revealed that the basic ideas have existed for many years,
however, under different names and in apparently unrelated fields.
A unified theory for this multidisciplinary knowledge is responsible
for the rapid growth of the field and the novelty and power of
its applications.
The recent development of a new wavelet filter construction
technique, the Lifting Scheme, has drawn yet more parallels
between wavelet theory and signal processing. I am specifically
interested in data visualisation. I will discuss the
construction and properties of a specific wavelet family
and how it forms the basis of a signal analysis, reconstruction
and visualisation framework.
