Abstract
The aim of my master's project is to program the mobile robot soccer team
"CIIPS Glory" to participate at the robot soccer World Cup RoboCup.
Our robots have been designed to master a wide range of different
tasks. They are equipped with color cameras, communication modules
and diverse sensors and actuators. Most of these components are
essential for a good performance in robot soccer.
The heart of the robots is the EyeBot platform, which, specially
designed for the use in mobile robotics, offers a variety of I/O
facilities to control and interact with the robots.
Contrary to other teams participating in the same league at RoboCup,
in our team all image processing is done on board, a definite
disadvantage with respect to performing well at RoboCup. On the other
side it enables the robots to be truly autonomous, an advantage not
only in case the communication system breaks down during a match. It
also makes it quite easy to modify the robots to compute several
other tasks such as object detection, navigation or intelligent group
behavior.
In my talk I will describe the different aspects of programming
autonomous soccer robots. Further I will discuss the problems that I
had to face and outline the future work which has to be done to
prepare my team as good as possible for the upcoming competition in
Singapore.
My talk will be followed by a demonstration of the soccer robots in
the CIIPS Mobile Robot Lab (room number 3.13).
