Title: LINUX Workshop Presentation

Abstract

This week's seminar departs from the normal format, and consists of a technical presentation regarding the installation of LINUX. It is intended to be of interest to students or staff who:

  • Are considering installing LINUX on their home PCs, or
  • Have tried to install LINUX, but not had too much success.

Topics to be covered include

LINUX versions and distributions, installing LINUX from floppies and CD-ROM, file systems and backups via floppy disks, building boot/rescue disks, getting X-windows running, getting the modem and PPP running, installing netscape and Java,

and if time permits -

getting a local Web server running, building a new kernel.
