Abstract
Dr Chris McDonald has written software which
- allows students to choose which labs or tutorials will be taken;
- allows staff to enter marks for assignments, tests, exams etc.
- allows students to see their mark components for all subjects, as well as
histograms showing how they are performing relative to the class.
The software is well tested and has a superb interface for both staff and
students. The timetable part of the system, in particular, is extremely
useful as it can eliminate a great deal of tiresome administrative work in
a complex course.
It is the intention of the Faculty administration that this software will
be used by all Departments (except Maths, who already have a similar
system). This will mean that students are always informed about all marks,
that resources such as labs are allocated in a flexible way and will ensure
that staff records are correct (since students are quick to point out
errors!).
The software was written as part of a 1999 USF project "Web Teaching",
which was funded with money taken from Departmental budgets. In other
words, you have paid for this development - come and see what you got!
In this presentation Chris will demonstrate the C-S-star software and will
call on staff to begin the process of loading detailed unit information for
the courses they teach.
