Abstract

Bioinformatics is the fusion of Biotechnology with Information Technology. This merger has proven to be instrumental in assembling, analysing, archiving and assimilating the vast quantities of data being generated by the Human Genome Project, as well as other worldwide sequencing efforts. In this seminar I will summarise some of the types of information being spawned as a result of these sequencing projects as well as describe the some of the types of Bioinformatics problems associated with the processing of this information. I will also cover some of the recent work from our group relating genotype to phenotype.
