Abstract
California is home to one in eight Americans and has a gross state
product of a trillion dollars (Note: real dollars). At the heart of
this phenomenal enterprise is Silicon Valley. It has a culture, work
ethic, capitalist greed, and creative ability like no other in the
world (some say thank goodness). "GOTO's" are for computers, but if
you know the semantics of "TOGO's are here" - you are a Silicon
Valley resident. Often referred to as planet California, this talk
covers several cultural and technological aspects of this Silicon
Valley Juggernaut. Time will be provided for questions, answers,
debates, and brawls if required.
About the Speaker: After UCLA, Gene lived and worked (both the
same thing) in Silicon Valley for 20 years. He now lives in Lake
Tahoe, Nevada and consults in Silicon Valley on occasion. He is
currently a visiting Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical
and Electronic Engineering.
