Hi-fidelity distributed visualisation of large graphical spaces

Time: 11am, Friday 1st October

Computer Science & Software Engineering

Seminar Room 1.24

Speaker:
Chris Thorne
PhD Student in CSSE
Supervisor Dr. Karen Haines

Abstract:

Although there have been significant advances in computer graphics due to rapidly advancing 3D software and hardware, these developments have not addressed the problem of motion jitter in large scale virtual environments. I propose that consistent, predictable hi-fidelity interaction and motion in large graphical spaces can be achieved through a combination of centered interaction and motion, where the viewpoint is maintained at the coordinate system center as the user .moves. through a virtual environment; and distributed management of locales to extend the scope of centered interaction and motion beyond the limitations of client graphics systems.

Keywords: distributed visulisation; virtual environments
