VizGraphDB: A graph database with visual query and result visualization

Gregory Butler
Concordia University, Montreal
11am, 5 May 2006, Room 1.24

Abstract

Our implementation of the GraphLog visual query language enables scientists to
query relational or object databases in an intuitive way. The system translates
GraphLog queries to Coral programs for execution and return results for
visualization by GraphViz. A study of the effect of the optimization strategies
in Coral show the desirability of selecting the right strategy for each query.
Future work is (a) a native implementation of GraphLog with advanced
optimization of queries; (b) query-by-example using common visual paradigms
for biologists such as the Genome Browser; and (c) optimal configuration of
genomics databases.
