Subject: Thanassis Boulis talk
Dr Thanassis Boulis NICTA, Sydney 3pm Monday 25th September, Second Floor Seminar Room
Abstract: Statistical data delivery where data has to reach a
certain fraction of nodes without guaranties about specific nodes is a
useful communication task in sensor networks. The nature of this task
can allow us to be more flexible and adopt a truly cross-layered
approach that can provide energy benefits. We consider many local
communication parameters and try to jointly optimize them to meet our
performance criteria with the least amount of spent energy. Many of
these parameters have been considered before in isolation or in small
groups by a variety of protocols in diverse networking layers, but not
all of them were optimized at the same time. With an accurate
simulation tool we do show the feasibility of such joint optimization
and its benefits. We also consider questions of applicability into real
networks by testing the stability of our results with poorly estimated
channel conditions.
