Abstract:
Proposal Abstract:
This talk summarizes research carried out in
the CSIRO Virtual Environments Laboratory in
Canberra over the last five years. It covers
aspects of immersive 3D displays, haptics, 3D
sound and augmented reality. Examples of uses
of such systems will be briefly discussed and
the author's particular interest in
collaborative haptics over the Internet will
be dealt with in more detail. The
hapto-visual development framework will be
described along with a surgical training
system, which will be presented as an example
of the application of some of the technology
and which is currently being commercialised.
Other work, such as integrating haptics with
augmented reality, and a crowd interaction
system using footsteps will be briefly
covered.
