Mobile Wireless Computing (CITS7219)

With recent advances in small and smart wireless devices, there is an increasing need for networking such devices so that they can work collaboratively. However, in most cases small devices cannot be networked using existing infrastructures and there is a growing need for establishing networks of such devices anytime and anywhere.

In this unit, we will study how we can form ad hoc networks for static and mobile wireless devices without infrastructural support. We will start with a brief discussion on networking fundamentals and then study a series of most important ad hoc mobile routing protocols. These protocols include the DSR, DSDV, AODV, ZRP, and several link reversal protocols like Gafni-Bertsekas algorithm, LMR and TORA. We will also discuss some link-state and position aware routing protocols. We will discuss some current research trends in sensor networks if time permits.
